Optometric Technician

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Optometric Technician to join our team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with people, learning new medical skills, and being part of a collaborative healthcare environment.

Our clinic provides a high level of medical eye care and advanced diagnostic testing. As a technician, you will work closely with our doctors to collect clinical data, assist with patient care, and help ensure each patient has an excellent experience.

No previous optometry experience is required — we are happy to train the right candidate who is curious, dependable, and eager to learn.

What You'll Do:

Clinical Testing & Patient Preparation:

• Perform pretesting and diagnostic imaging such as visual acuity testing, intraocular pressure measurement, fundus photography, visual fields, tomography, and corneal topography.
• Prepare patients for their exam and gather important medical information.

Doctor Support:

• Enter patient information into the electronic health record.
• Work alongside the optometrist as a scribe , documenting exam findings and treatment plans.

Patient Care & Education:

• Guide patients through testing procedures.
• Teach patients how to insert, remove, and care for contact lenses.
• Help patients understand their treatment plans and follow-up care.

Continuing Education & Career Development:

We believe optometric technicians should be able to build a long-term career in eye care . Our clinic supports professional growth by providing:

• Study materials for Certified Paraoptometric (CPO) certification, expected to earn CPO certification within one year of hire .
• Support for CPOA and ABO certifications.
• Opportunity to enroll in the Certified Paraoptometric Technician (CPOT) program, a two-year online degree.
• 80% tuition reimbursement for employees pursuing the CPOT degree.

What We're Looking For:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to learn medical procedures and operate specialized equipment.
• Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
• Interest in healthcare and helping patients.
• Previous clinical experience is helpful but not required.
• Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.

Tillamook Vision Center has been serving patients on the North Oregon coast for more than 30 years. We are a medical optometry clinic in a small town that otherwise would not have access to specialty eye care.
