FORESTRY ASSISTANT II (PERMANENT INTERMITTENT) – CENTRAL VALLEY DISTRICT / NATURAL RESOURCES / CALAVERAS BIG TREES SP
The reporting location for this position is Calaveras Big Trees State Park in Arnold, CA. This position will work under the general supervision of Forester II (Supervisory).
We are looking for a dedicated team player to work in some of the most beautiful parks in the State Park System including Calaveras Big Trees State Park, Indian Grinding Rock State Historic Park, Columbia State Historic Park, and Caswell Memorial State Park. The Forestry Assistant II will work closely with the Forester II and Forester I to plan, implement, and manage forest, range, and watershed protection, field operations, which includes thinning, tree felling, fuels reduction and prescribed fire in support of the Wildfire and Forest Resilience Program. As Crew Leader this position will oversee and manage the Forest Stewardship Crew consisting of Forestry Technician (Squad Leaders) and Forestry Aides. This position will direct and oversee contractors, CalFire and/or California Conservation Corps labor crews to meet treatment area standards and specifications.
Training and Development Assignments may be considered.

The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.
This position may work up to 1500 hours in any calendar year.

Combination of office work and outdoor work. Work outdoors in variable weather conditions including rain, sleet, and snow. Work includes hiking up and down steep hills with field equipment.
